Job description

Location: Remote | Time Commitment: 4–6 hours/week | Weekly virtual check-ins

Position Summary

As the Grant coordinator, you will be responsible for identifying and securing funding opportunities to support Welfare Avenue’s programs and initiatives. This role involves researching potential grant opportunities, writing compelling grant proposals, and assisting in the overall fundraising strategy. You will work closely with the executive team and various departments to ensure funding goals are met including supporting Welfare Avenue’s strategic goal of transitioning volunteer roles into paid staff positions through successful grant acquisition.

Scope of Work

Grant Research and Identification

  • Conduct thorough research to identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other funding sources.
  • Maintain a database of potential grants, including deadlines, requirements, and funding amounts.
  • Stay up-to-date on trends and best practices in grant writing and fundraising.
  • Write and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of intent, and applications that align with Welfare Avenue’s mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary information and data for grant proposals.
  • Ensure all grant proposals are tailored to meet the specific requirements and guidelines of each funding opportunity.

Collaboration and Coordination

  • Work with the executive team and program managers to develop compelling narratives and budgets for grant proposals.
  • Assist in the development of fundraising strategies and campaigns.
  • Coordinate with other departments to gather information and ensure accuracy in grant submissions.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track the status of submitted grant proposals and follow up as necessary.
  • Prepare regular reports on grant activities, including awarded funds and upcoming opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation required by funders.

Strategic Funding Development

  • Prioritize securing grants that fund both program initiatives and organizational capacity-building efforts, including the establishment of paid staff positions.
  • Play a key role in building Welfare Avenue’s long-term financial sustainability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a CEGEP or university program in Communications, English, French, Marketing, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in grant writing, research, or related roles, preferably within a non-profit or community-based organization.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to create compelling narratives.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and evaluate potential funding opportunities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with grant management and research tools. (Keela is used at Welfare Avenue).
  • A strong commitment to social justice and the mission of Welfare Avenue.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
