Job description

Grant and Funding Coordinator

[French posting below]

Come join our dynamic feminist team! The National Association of Women and the Law (NAWL) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing substantive equality for all women in Canada through law reform, particularly at the federal level. NAWL’s work addresses many areas of women’s rights, including violence against women, reproductive justice, climate justice, and women’s economic empowerment.

Job summary

The Grant and Funding Coordinator reports to NAWL’s Executive Director and supports the implementation of NAWL’s fundraising strategy, including grant writing. This role is also partially seconded to the National Association of Women and the Law Charitable Trust for Research and Education (the “Trust”), where the Coordinator will contribute to the Trust’s overall fund development program and will be accountable to the Trustees.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with direct experience in non-profit fundraising. This includes grant writing, donor engagement and stewardship, executing strategic fundraising plans, conducting prospect research, organizing events, and supporting other fundraising projects.

This is a full-time contract with an anticipated start in June 2025 and ending on March 31st, 2026.

Key Responsibilities

For NAWL

  • Seek out and evaluate potential grants and funding sources, including from government, foundations, and other sources.
  • Draft and submit grant proposals.
  • Coordinate grant applications with the rest of the team, working closely with the Project Manager and legal team to gather necessary information and ensure alignment.
  • Maintain a system for tracking grant applications, deadlines, and progress.
  • Coordinate grant reporting and compliance.
  • Develop sponsorship packages and secure sponsorships for events, campaigns, or projects.
  • Support the Executive Director in building relationships with funders and sponsors.
  • Track and analyze fundraising metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

For the NAWL Trust

  • Implement and manage the donor stewardship program.
  • Manage and maintain donor records using DonorPerfect CRM.
  • Issue charitable tax receipts in compliance with CRA guidelines.
  • Support major gift cultivation and solicitation efforts, including preparing briefing materials and coordinating meetings.
  • Coordinate donor communications and campaigns.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of donor appreciation events and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Trustees.
  • Create and present an annual impact report.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and qualifications

Required

  • A relevant post-secondary degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, for instance in grant writing or donor management
  • Excellent writing skills in at least one official language (fluency in both English and French is an asset)
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and stay organized
  • Capacity to thrive in a small, dynamic, and collaborative team environment

Assets

  • Proven ability to engage and maintain relationships with donors, volunteers, and stakeholders
  • Experience with donor management and fundraising platforms (e.g., DonorPerfect)
  • Familiarity with feminist issues and the social justice or non-profit sector
  • Strong understanding of philanthropic principles and best practices

Work environment and work conditions

  • As a feminist employer, NAWL offers a 4-day workweek and the secondment to the Trust will mirror that.
  • Work hours are flexible.
  • Indicate in your application if you are based in, or willing to relocate to, the Ottawa region, and if you are able to work in-person at NAWL’s Ottawa office two days per week.
  • You may occasionally have to work outside of normal work hours (for example, evening meetings or events, weekend staff retreat).
  • You may have to travel within Canada, unless it is not possible due to your circumstances.

Compensation, vacations and benefits

  • The salary range for this position is $60,000 – $70,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Competitive paid vacation package.
