About the Opportunity:

Nova Scotia Health is hiring graduate practical nurses completing their studies within 12 months. We provide challenging and rewarding opportunities in nursing, aligned with our mission of excellence in health, healing, and learning.

The Graduate Practical Nurse will:

  • Provide nursing care independently based on an established care plan
  • Apply nursing knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ensure competent, evidence-based practice and contribute to team efficiency
  • Maintain and enhance competencies through ongoing professional development
  • Assess patient needs and provide appropriate interventions within scope of practice
  • Be responsible and accountable for nursing practice and conduct, maintaining current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing

We also offer a New Nurse Mentorship Program supporting new nurses through transition, offering guidance, camaraderie, and inclusion with experienced mentors.

About You:

  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program within the last 12 months or upcoming twelve months, eligible for licensing with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments
  • Active BLS Certificate (First Aid and CPR at Healthcare Provider level)

Assignments are based on availability, your interests, and application date.

Hours:

  • Various permanent, temporary, and casual relief opportunities
  • Shifts include evenings, weekends, and holidays

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Graduate Practical Nurse (NSGEU): $22.89/hr
  • Graduate Practical Nurse (NSNU): $24.20/hr
  • Licensed Practical Nurse: Starting at $31.74/hr (with active license)
  • Shift, weekend, and other premiums
