Job description

We have an opportunity for a Graduate NPD Buyer to join our Purchasing Team.

Finsbury Food Group is a leading speciality bakery manufacturer. We constantly raise quality and efficiency standards, and build long-term relationships with major retailers and the foodservice channel. We produce a wide range of bakery products, including sharing cakes, tray bakes, and party cakes, serving the UK market.

As our Graduate NPD Buyer, you will be responsible for ensuring raw materials and packaging meet specifications, are within cost parameters, and have achievable lead times. You will negotiate terms with suppliers and support artwork approval processes.

This fast-paced role requires a candidate with a degree, excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to multi-task and meet deadlines. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders are essential.

The role is based at our Hamilton site with options for hybrid working. Occasional travel to other sites and suppliers will be required.

This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience in a major UK bakery business, working with a supportive team and offering potential for growth and career development.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Proactively source new raw materials and packaging for product development.
  2. Work with development teams to meet project timelines.
  3. Attend product launch meetings and communicate material issues.
  4. Validate specifications and artworks with technical teams.
  5. Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers to ensure best value.
  6. Demonstrate negotiation and purchasing capabilities; experience in food industry is a plus but not essential.
Candidate Profile:
  • Degree educated.
  • Organized, able to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, ERP, NPD Software, and Quality Control Systems.
  • Responsible and proactive in personal development.
  • Numerate with high standards.
  • Desirable: Member or working towards Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply.
