Who are we looking for?

Come join our dynamic Emergency Preparedness and Response Team in the Ontario region to grow your career to the next level! As a New Graduate or Junior Environmental Engineer/Scientist – Emergency Response, you will play a meaningful role within our Environmental Group. This position involves performing work with skilled professionals across North America in a collaborative environment with opportunities for specialization and advancement. The role is based out of our Waterloo, ON office.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

Emergency Spill Response:

  • Required to work on a team that is available 24/7 to assist with providing on-site professional services to assist with emergency spill response for clients in Ontario and across Canada
  • Spills may include train derailments, pipeline releases, trucking accidents, chemical spills, etc.
  • Assist in preparing emergency response plans, participate in emergency exercises, and provision of training to clients, etc.
  • Work with various business groups within the region to accomplish urgent client deliverables and tasks
  • Assist with various aspects of environmental investigation and remediation

Field Work:

  • Participate in emergency spill response projects
  • Conduct contractor oversight tasks including containment/confinement of spills, drilling, monitoring well installation, soil excavation, product removal, stream rehabilitation, site restoration, etc.
  • Conduct water level monitoring, groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, and soil sampling
  • Drone/UAV operation and surveying
  • Industrial hygiene air monitoring and sampling

Report Writing:

  • Assist with preparation of proposals, work plans, reports, and regulatory submissions on behalf of clients
  • Create progress updates and draft reports to be reviewed by supervisor or project manager
  • Process, analyze, and present data for review by project manager and technical experts
  • Assist in the preparation of project related memoranda and reports
  • Assist other team members and project managers with report writing
  • Research regulatory information using various resources

What you will bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Geological), Bachelor of Science, or alternate relevant qualifications (e.g., post-graduate studies in environmental engineering or science)
  • 0 - 2 years of experience required, co-op experience would be considered a benefit
  • Flexible work schedule, ability to work weekends, holidays and nights on occasion when required
  • Previous experience working in a consulting environment would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Field work will require working long hours, working in inclement weather conditions, and lifting up to 50 lbs, when required
  • Willingness and desire to travel, with the ability to work remotely and internationally
