Job summary

General Motors in Markham is seeking a new graduate Software Developer with an interest in distributed systems to help build, test, and maintain embedded control and data plane infrastructure across GM's vehicle fleet. You will receive mentorship from senior engineers and work on production-grade software.

The role emphasizes collaboration with cloud services (Azure, AWS S3, Firestore), a hands-on approach to learning, and contributions to open source.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in software development (C/C++) from coursework, internships, or projects.
• Experience on collegiate engineering design teams (e.g., Formula SAE, EcoCAR).
• Curiosity about open source technologies and production-grade software.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain the on vehicle control plane that retrieves configuration from the cloud and applies it across the vehicle's ECUs.
• Design, implement, and maintain the on vehicle data plane that collects, processes, and forwards data to cloud storage.
• Contribute to optimizing our control and data plane for reliable data egress and configuration delivery over intermittent connectivity.
• Work with cloud services such as Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for configuration delivery and data egress.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud teams to roll out new on-vehicle software safely.
• Instrument our software with observability to monitor the fleet and diagnose issues in production.
• Contribute to the open source community by reporting issues and contributing documentation.
