Reporting to the Grading Superintendent, a Grading Foreman is responsible for supervising the assigned crew and equipment to complete civil construction grading projects. The Foreman is also responsible for presenting a professional image and attitude in all dealings with the client, the public, and workers, and for ensuring all tasks are carried out safely and responsibly.

This is a seasonal position based in Grande Prairie, and we are seeking candidates who can commit to the full duration of the construction season. To ensure a seamless transition, accommodations are provided, along with a company vehicle or the option to use your own vehicle through our vehicle hire program. How You’ll Add Value

  1. Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  2. Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the job site, overseeing laborers, operators, and ensuring all tasks align with production, safety, and quality specifications
  3. Plan work two to three days in advance, coordinating schedules and ensuring project milestones, such as compaction and surveying, are met on time
  4. Mentor and train operators and laborers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and skill development
  5. Collaborate with the site superintendent, project managers, and client representatives to ensure smooth project execution
  6. Utilize your knowledge of GPS machine control to optimize operations and improve efficiency
  7. Ensure all employees meet required training standards, addressing skill gaps and providing feedback for performance improvement
  8. Inspect and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment, reporting any issues promptly to ensure safe and efficient operation
  9. Verify material deliveries and manage inventory, reporting discrepancies and ensuring materials are available to meet project needs
  10. Maintain accurate project records, including material quantities, personnel hours, and equipment usage
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
  1. 3+ years of experience as a foreman in heavy civil construction
  2. Experience operating equipment is considered an asset
  3. Strong knowledge of industry standards and a commitment to ensuring compliance
  4. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions

About Mainline Construction

Our story began in 1992, when Harvey Bennett opened a deep utility construction business serving the local residential markets of Grande Prairie, Alberta. Over the years, he grew the company to service other industries, and expanded to include earthworks, oilfield construction, gravel supply, and trucking. As Harvey maintained the growth of the business, his primary focus and priority was always his staff, clients and the community. The family atmosphere at Mainline Construction and its supporting community was a natural fit when Volker Stevin Canada purchased the company in 2014.
