About Qualicum School District

Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. Qualicum School District also embraces many community organizations through various school programs. 1.00 FTE TEMPORARY

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To

  • Plan and deliver developmentally responsive learning experience which reflect the unique needs of learners in a secondary school context;
  • Plan and implement effective student assessment in order to improve student learning and to ensure instructional practice which is responsive to student needs;
  • Actively contribute to the success of the school’s Enhancing Student Learning Plan and the district’s Strategic Priorities;
  • Work collaboratively with parents, district staff, outside professionals and community agencies while also maintaining healthy boundaries;
  • Create an engaging, respectful and inclusive learning environment for students;
  • Work in consultation with Learning Support teachers in the development, implementation, communication, monitoring and evaluation of support plans (Class Support Plans, IEP, behavior plans, safety plans) for students who require additional supports;
  • Integrate use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to support teaching and learning, manage information and carry out professional communication;
  • Develop/design an outdoor program to meet curricular competencies.

The Successful Candidate Will Have The Following Qualifications

  • A valid BC Teaching Certificate and familiarity with the BC curriculum at the secondary level;
  • A Bachelor’s Degree with a Major or Minor in Science;
  • All required safety and skill certifications to instruct, supervise and manage students safely in outdoor leadership and activity learning experiences, according to the ROAMS Global Studies program course syllabus (e.g. First Aid (OFA3), open water, rivers, rescue, etc.);
  • Experience teaching Science, Outdoor Education, and/or PE at the secondary level.

Salary Grid

$59,711-$109,520 with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
