The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach to provide an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports both personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Job Description

The Grade 1/2 Teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Elementary
Abilities / Competencies
  • Professional development in literacy/numeracy education
  • Experience/Competency in UFLI
  • Experience teaching grades 1/2
  • Excellent communication (written, oral, electronic), problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem-solving, and program planning
  • Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to apply knowledge, experience, and commitment in culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Current knowledge of developmental trauma and its impact on learning, communication, and social engagement throughout the lifespan
  • Interest and willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on students' individual needs
  • Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach school staff as needed
  • Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality
  • Experience in planning and developing training and professional learning for students with behaviors of concern
  • Proven ability to communicate and work with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Ability to value others' voices and contributions while remaining open to constructive criticism
