Overview

  • Languages: English or French
  • Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry
  • Experience: 2 to less than 3 years
  • Work setting: Urban area, Private practice
  • Work must be completed onsite; remote work not available

Responsibilities

  1. Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals
  2. Examine patients’ health condition to identify diseases and injuries
  3. Help patients develop healthy habits, break old habits and reshape their approach to wellness
  4. Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures
  5. Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health
  6. Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
  7. Perform and assist in routine surgery
  8. Deliver babies and provide pre-natal and post-natal care
  9. Advise patients on health care
  10. Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases to government authorities
  11. Be the patient advocate
  12. Coordinate or manage primary patient care
  13. Provide acute care management
  14. Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on health and lifestyle issues

Credentials

  • Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC)
  • Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities
  • Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE I and MCCQE II)
