Join Alectra as a Government & Stakeholder Relations Specialist where you will be responsible for developing and delivering the company’s Government Relations Program at the Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels and directly supports and liaises with Alectra’s CEO, Executive Committee, and Senior Leadership Teams.
The role represents the company and enhances Alectra’s reputation with industry groups, shareholders, elected officials (Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Parliament, Mayors, Councils), and governmental agency staff at all levels as required. The role is critical to advocating for Alectra Inc.’s interests, influencing policy decisions and navigating intersecting government, regulatory, and system operator policies to support operational excellence and contribute to the overall growth and success of the organization.
What you’ll do
- Develops and implements proactive and reactive GR strategies and programs aligned with the company’s objectives and priorities.
- Provides strategic analysis and recommendations to Senior Leadership related to policy developments at all levels of government.
- Develops communications materials such as briefings, presentations, and advocacy documents to support EC and SLT at key meetings with elected officials and at industry events.
- Researches, analyzes, and executes GR tactics at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels to advance Alectra’s strategic objectives, with a view to cohesive and cross-functional support for all business units.
- Cultivates and maintains positive and productive relationships with elected and senior government officials and industry stakeholders and attends public meetings and industry events to represent the organization.
- Creates business development and advocacy advancement opportunities for Alectra through these strategic contacts and engagements.
- Serves in public-facing roles at key government and industry forums, advancing the organization’s reputation as an innovative leader and customer/government ally.
- Identifies and tracks success metrics and program performance measures to evaluate GR program effectiveness and integrate into future initiatives.
- Actively seeks intelligence and field knowledge of what is occurring in municipal, provincial, and federal government arenas to make strategic decisions surrounding Alectra’s policy priorities.
- Collaborates with business unit leaders across the organization to resolve issues escalated via elected officials, while identifying opportunities to streamline customer experience to improve service delivery and manage reputational risks.
- Manages shareholder relations through the identification and resolution of constituency issues for elected and senior government officials.
- Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards.
- Manages the government relations sponsorship, events, and subscriptions budgets with a view to realizing tangible benefits and makes key decisions on strategic investments across the service territory.
- Represents Alectra at municipal and industry events, including appearances on panels, and delivering remarks and presentations.
- Manages GR co-op and summer students, providing guidance, ongoing professional development and training.

Who you are
Education
- Undergraduate Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Graduate degree in related field preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of the political and regulatory landscape in Ontario, including energy policy and legislation at all levels of government, and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of the energy and utility industries is required.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in policy analysis and/or existing relationships and connections with key stakeholders.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Communications, Public or Government Relations, or related roles, preferably within the energy sector or regulated industries.
- Experience in both private and public sectors an asset.
- Experience in issues management and stakeholder relations is required.
- Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with external stakeholders.
- Solid problem-solving skills; able to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to complex policy issues.
- Advanced writing, interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to explain information in an organized and concise way.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects within established timelines.
- Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license.
