The Richmond Country Club has a challenging 6800-yard A.V. Macan golf course. With approximately 1000 members, our club is unique among the other Lower Mainland golf and athletic clubs; we are the only club to offer golf, tennis, aquatics, athletics, and social programming for families and members of all ages.

About this Opportunity

Richmond Country Club is seeking a 2nd Assistant Superintendent to join our Golf Course Maintenance team starting March 2025. This individual will report directly to the Head Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent. The individual will be in charge of supervision and will work as a cohesive crew with the Golf Course Maintenance team. The 2nd Assistant is an integral part of the Golf Course Maintenance team. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who wants to further their career and reach their potential. This is an ideal position for someone looking to develop their leadership and management skills in preparation for becoming a Golf Course Superintendent.

Plans for the 2025 season include the following:

  • Major bunker renovation.
  • Continuation of the tee renovation project.
  • Creation and installation of an on-site vegetable garden for culinary use at the club.

The 2nd Assistant Superintendent's duties:

  • Responsible for aiding in overseeing the maintenance, operations, and management of the golf course.
  • Prioritize and coordinate tasks with the Assistant Superintendent.
  • In the absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, be responsible for making decisions and fulfilling those responsibilities.
  • Work closely with and learn from the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent and take part in discussions regarding daily scheduling.
  • Ensure all work is completed by the team in a safe and efficient manner to the expected standards of the club.
  • Responsible for supervising and training staff in the field.
  • Assist with daily course practices, cultural practices, spraying, and irrigation.
  • Assist with staff and ongoing project supervision.
  • Assist with repair and maintenance of the irrigation system and drainage installation.
  • Assist in the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and amendments.
  • Monitor and record green and fairway moisture levels.
  • Carry out all staff-related duties, including administrative duties needed for the position.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are followed to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure building and staff area cleanliness is maintained through actively working with staff and cleaners.
  • Planning and ordering needed plant material and tools.
  • Maintain a good standard of required daily record-keeping.
  • Ensure the team keeps all work areas clean and organized.
  • Take on responsibility and lead the team in the absence of the Head and Assistant Superintendent, such as on weekends.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head and Assistant Superintendent.

  • Flexible shift timings: weekends and holidays coverage is required for this role.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of golf course maintenance experience is required.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • A diploma or degree in Turf Management is an asset; or related and equivalent experience or a combination thereof is required.
  • Possess a BC Landscape Pesticide Applicators Certificate or be willing to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
  • Knowledgeable in the repair and maintenance of sprinklers and water lines.
  • Irrigation experience with Toro Lynx is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of computers to fulfill administrative tasks.
  • Knowledge of turf-protectant products is required to carry out related job tasks.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Weekend supervision work is required as part of this role.
  • The ability to operate utility vehicles is required.
  • Must hold a valid BC Driver's License.
  • General ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to communicate clearly with management and staff.

More information on the role:

  • Salary: $68,000 to $74,000 per year dependent on qualifications.
  • Duration: Full 12-month a year position.
  • Hours of Work: Full-time, a minimum of 40 hours per week, weekend coverage.
  • Start Date: March 3, 2025.
  • Job Environment: On-site only, outdoors.
  • Ability to commute/relocate: Richmond, BC- reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required).

Our 6800-yard, par 72 A.V. Macan designed course is one of BC's premiere golf venues. Our championship level golf course is known for its tree-lined fairways, well-positioned bunkers, and its signature raised, undulating greens. Our green and serene golf courses require year-round TLC and involve multi-level technicalities to keep the course season-ready. Our Golf Course Maintenance team weathers all types of conditions to maintain the expectation and satisfaction of our members and their love of golf. Our Golf Course Maintenance team comprises irrigation technicians, groundskeepers, a gardener, a horticulturist, and assistant and head superintendents.
