Role Overview

ABS Global, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity! We are looking for a Global Sire Acquisition Manager to lead the development of dairy genetic programs at ABS Global. The position is located in our DeForest, WI office with hybrid work options.

The Global Sire Acquisition Manager has primary accountability for managing the team responsible for the selection and acquisition of dairy germplasm, overseeing genetic nucleuses, and driving strategies for animal selection and program setup. The successful candidate will have experience in dairy genetic management, strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of cattle reproduction, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with breeders and partner herds.

You Will
  • Lead a team of genetic analysts and animal production experts.
  • Manage the incoming portfolio of bulls, including their selection.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner herds.
  • Oversee the internal genetic nucleus and manage housing, female selection, and operations for the genetic nucleuses.
  • Select, coordinate, and acquire mating sires.
  • Develop strong relationships with breeders and breed associations.
  • Utilize available tools to drive genetic progress for ABS’s genetics program.
  • Facilitate the creation of embryos for elite germplasm.
  • Investigate industry population files to identify sire and donor acquisitions.
  • Be accountable for budgets related to germplasm acquisition and dairy genetic nucleuses.
  • Support Supply Chain and Marketing teams with sire positioning and prioritization.
  • Collaborate with Product Line Management to align breeding strategy with product strategy.
  • Perform other duties and projects assigned by Dairy Product Development.
Requirements
  • Master’s in Dairy/Animal Science or related field with 5+ years of applicable experience, or 10+ years of applicable experience in lieu of a Master's degree.
  • Experience in people leadership.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record in contract negotiations.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PC Dart, Dairy Comp, or other dairy herd management software; knowledge of SAS, R, or relevant analytical programs.
  • Experience or knowledge of elite dairy genetics and pedigrees.
  • Knowledge of cattle reproduction.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
