Job summary

AIMCo is seeking a Managing Director, Head of External Partnerships to lead externally managed investment strategies within its Public Equities division in Calgary. The role focuses on identifying high-quality external managers, underwriting, portfolio construction, and ongoing oversight, while building the External Partnerships team and negotiating terms with partners.

The successful candidate will years of institutional asset management experience, a strong track record in manager selection,

Qualifications

Minimum 15 years in institutional asset management
Experience selecting, underwriting and overseeing external managers
Strong understanding of hedge fund and equity approaches
Proven track record in manager selection, sizing and capital allocation
Excellent negotiation and governance skills
Willingness to travel internationally
Strong academic background preferred (CFA/CAIA/MBA)

Responsibilities

Lead sourcing, evaluation, underwriting and oversight of external managers across equity and absolute return strategies.
Oversee portfolio construction and capital allocation to align with risk/return objectives.
Negotiate investment management agreements, fees and governance terms.
Build and maintain relationships with leading external managers globally.
Develop and lead a high-performing investment team and collaborate with internal groups.
