Job summary

Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets invites top students to its four‑month Capital Markets internship in Toronto and Calgary, from May to August 2027. The program identifies exceptional candidates for full‑time opportunities or a second internship within GBM.

You will support Sales, Trading and Structuring teams, prepare client pitches, provide market commentary, and engage in research projects while receiving mentorship, training, and exposure to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in post-secondary education, studying Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Statistics or Mathematics.
• Proficiency in Python or another object oriented programming language is required.
• Proficiency in Excel VBA is required.
• Proficiency in SQL is an asset.
• Interest in international finance and future career with Scotiabank GBM.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to the Sales, Trading and Structuring staff on the trade floor.
• Assist in preparing client pitches and presentations, daily market commentary and timely client support.
• Work on research projects as required.

The Capital Markets, Sales & Trading Internship is a four-month position at Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets that is designed to introduce undergraduate and graduate students to the stimulating and dynamic environment of wholesale sales & trading. Students could be placed in one of the following areas:

The objective of the internship is to identify exceptional candidates for full-time opportunities or a second internship with the GBM Capital Markets team. All interns will have access to our mentorship program where students are teamed-up with a mentor who will serve as a guide for both professional and personal development.

• Assist in preparing client pitches and presentations, daily market commentary and providing timely client support. Work on research projects as required.

Do you have the skills and requirements that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if:

• You are currently enrolled in post-secondary education, studying Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Statistics or Mathematics, and have a documented interest within Financial Markets.
• Proficiency in Python or another Object Orientated Programing (OOP) language is required.
• Proficiency in Excel VBA is required.
• Proficiency within SQL is an asset.
• You love to learn and envision yourself working for an international organization that heavily invests in your future
• You enjoy being involved in extracurricular activities such as conferences, clubs, and competitions/hackathons
• You have a demonstrated interest and knowledge in the financial markets
• You have proven record of outstanding achievement in academic and extracurricular activities
