Description

The Canadian Corporate Business group serves Canada’s large segment clients.

The Global Account Director (“GAD”) helps create long-term impact for EDC customers.The GAD works with established corporate customers as well as new prospects. Their portfolio are typically focused on specific sectors. The GAD identifies business opportunities, increases the capability of EDC’s customers to compete in global markets and builds deep relationships that increase capabilities of EDC customers to have success in multiple international markets.

EDC’s Canadian Corporate Business Development Team (CCBD) services large Canadian corporates with an existing and expanding global footprint that require international financing and insurance solutions, as well as trade connections and knowledge support. To succeed in this role, the GAD must develop a trust-based and partnered relationship with their clients, leading to a deep understanding of their clients and prospects’ current and evolving international business needs. The GAD has ultimate accountability for the overall relationship of each assigned account and leads the development of tailored solutions, as required. In managing the assigned accounts, the GAD will influence and provide insight to a dedicated internal virtual account team of business, service and knowledge specialists who support the overall relationship. As such, we are looking for an experienced and motivated professional with relevant business development expertise to drive value and impact for Canadian companies in this segment.

This position reports to a Director, Canadian Corporate Business Development Team (CCBD).

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic partner for customers and their senior executives focusing on continuous value creation, partnership building and long-term growth.
  • Combine deep knowledge of transaction structures and risk analysis with sophisticated insights into customer challenges, strategy, financial structures, and capital markets, providing authoritative guidance and growth opportunities.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions.
  • Develop an extensive network of senior contacts and represent EDC with various stakeholders including sector/industry groups.
  • Develops deep insights and intelligence on sector/market new developments, anticipate emerging business ecosystem, risks, opportunities and trends.
  • Provide proactive advice to customers and internal stakeholders that guides strategic decision making.
  • Influence EDC’s perspectives and interests, provide key insight, and advice that enable informed decision-making, strategic planning, and risk management in ambiguous and complex situations.
  • Provide mentorship and strategic guidance to internal teams ensuring alignment with customer excellence in services, organizational goals, targets, risk tolerances and program strategies.
  • Lead major cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • Recognized as a sector thought leader by both internal and external stakeholders.

Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or relevant field.
  • Minimum 10 years of business development experience, including client relationship management with a focus on international financing transactions, gained through corporate, and/or investment banking roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices in strategic account management.
  • Understanding of risks (Credit, Structure, ESG) which may be evidenced by recent underwriting experience.
  • Deep knowledge of corporate capital raising instruments utilized by prospects and clients along with market forces driving utilization of each of them.
  • Possesses a keen business acumen demonstrated by the ability to detect, understand and assess risks including the management capabilities of clients and prospects.
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand the client’s strategy, a deep understanding of potential solutions and influence the end solution working with various functional teams.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to proactively engage with clients regarding their capital structure and will propose ideas aligned with EDC’s risk appetite and strategy.
  • Recent and relevant experience in one or more of the following sectors, such as: Agri-Food, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Transportation, Communication, Information & Technology, Advance Manufacturing, Clean Technology, Forestry, Mining or other sectors. An existing, established, professional network of corporate and financial relationships.

Assets

  • Bilingual in both official languages (English and French)
  • Knowledge of international business practices and international trade
  • MBA, CFA, CPA or similar designation

Compensation Details:

  • Business Development 20: Salaries typically range from $127,380 to $200,000 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
  • This role will be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from community hub in Toronto or Montreal.
