Position Overview

The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement, and leadership. The Glenn Carpenter Center, located on Foster Thurston, offers Member programs in an outdoor setting unlike any other location in Saint John. It features over 250 acres of forest, a private lake, trails, an archery field, a sports field, a beach, and more, allowing children, youth, teens, and adults to learn new skills and participate in favorite activities year-round.

The Program Lead’s responsibilities include overseeing the coordination of creative and enthusiastic Member programs and scheduling. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, problem-solving capabilities, and experience in leading programming. The Program Lead will work closely with the GCC Coordinator to ensure programming is executed appropriately.

Authority: The incumbent will take all actions appropriate to fulfilling the described functions, consistent with the practices and policies of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick. The position reports to the Development Supervisor.

Core Responsibilities
  • Assist in effectively planning, organizing, and supervising daily member programming and activities.
  • Employ inclusive and adaptive programming principles to cater to all participating YMCA Members.
  • Assist in completing required administrative tasks related to the operation of the Glenn Carpenter Center.
  • Maintain a professional work environment, adhering to all policies and processes.
  • Assist in all other operations as requested by the Manager of The Glenn Carpenter Center.
  • Responsible for the care, safety, storage, and inventory of all equipment and supplies.
  • Provide a positive role model for staff and members, demonstrating health, dress, speech, etiquette, and respectful relations.
  • Model appropriate behaviors aligned with the YMCA's mission, vision, and values, and foster effective relationships with staff, volunteers, and members.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children; experience in childcare, afterschool, or youth programs is an asset.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • Outdoor recreation experience and familiarity with various activities.
  • Team-oriented with cooperative leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Must pass a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
