The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert is recruiting for a Term GIS Technician in our Information Technology Services department.

Reporting to the Spatial Data and Applications Team Lead, this role involves data capture, updates, and maintenance to support the City’s GIS functions. Responsibilities include providing GIS client support, data manipulation, and designing high-quality maps using cartographic principles.

  3. Supporting Emergency Services by preparing and updating data for 9-1-1, dispatch, and maps

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is conscientious, client-focused, proactive, and possesses excellent interpersonal skills. You should have a keen aptitude for learning new technologies and translating business needs into GIS solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or related field with two years of experience OR a post-secondary diploma with four years of experience in Esri ArcGIS
  • Proficiency in ESRI products, including data editing, analysis, and map production, preferably in government settings
  • Experience gathering requirements and creating high-quality maps
  • Knowledge of spatial data maintenance, including creation, updating, quality checking, and metadata; experience with imagery is preferred
  • Working knowledge of web mapping applications for mobile data collection, including design, implementation, training, and support
  • Strong communication skills and a focus on customer service

Hours and Schedule

We offer a 72-hour bi-weekly schedule, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a regular day off every two weeks. Flexible hours may be available, allowing adjustments of 30 or 60 minutes from core hours.

Remote Work and Location

This position is full-time and remote, with candidates required to reside within Alberta and sign a remote work agreement. Some onsite attendance may be required.

Compensation

Annual salary ranges from $64,602 to $79,509, with biweekly pay of approximately $2,485 to $3,058. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Term and Conditions

  • This is a temporary position from September 2024 to March 2025.
  • Successful applicants must pass a police background check and provide proof of credentials.
