Education, Training, Experience
- A GIS Certificate or Diploma from a post secondary program.
- 2-3 years of experience working with GIS software (e.g ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Survey123, Story Maps, Dashboards, Experience Builder).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- A Valid BC Driver’s License and acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Acceptable Police Information Check.

- Strong understanding of GIS systems, practices and analysis.
- Organizational skills in relation to data archiving, structure, naming conventions and management standards.
- Ability to coach and provide information to co-workers.

List of Duties
- The GIS Technician will provide technical support to other works or projects via the GIS Department by answering inquiries, providing information and mapping products as required.
- This would be achieved through accurate population and maintenance of geospatial databases.
- Responsibilities will focus heavily on Tla’amin Nation’s (TN) Asset Management Inventory Database but may also include other work such as tracking Archaeological Sites, Preliminary Archaeological Field Reconnaissance (PAFR) locations, and assisting in the management of the Traditional Use Site Reconnaissance Survey database.
- The successful candidate will be comfortable instructing or assisting TN employees on GIS use by providing verbal and/or written instructions for specific GIS tasks that employees are required to perform in relation to their roles and duties.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin policies, standards, practices and procedures as directed by the GIS Specialist. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to members, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.
- Aids in the maintenance of Tla’amin Public Works inventory-based data management systems.
- Digitizes previous works such as architectural drawings to incorporate assigned characteristics into databases.
- Provides technical assessment of asset condition through field-based data collection using a GNSS receiver.
- Consults with Public Works and other divisions regarding the collection of infrastructure performance data (e.g., sewer blockages, water main breaks, road repair data, numbers of affected customers, etc.).
- Updates and edits data as instructed; maintains accurate and up-to-date systems, data files, reports, and records.
- Collects data for various departments through fieldwork in a variety of weather conditions.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Occasional travel to attend meetings or training is required. May need to be outside in various weather conditions for data collection.
