Job summary

Atikokan Economic Development Corporation is seeking a GIS & Data Management Specialist based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. This full-time role leads GIS data management, map creation and data workflows to support environmental permitting, community engagement and geology.

You will develop specialized GIS routines and integrate external data, train users, manage document control, and ensure safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Applicable education and experience (minimum 2 years).
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
• Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS, plus MS Project and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

• Establish and manage a Project GIS data management system with maps and figures for permitting, marketing and geology.
• Develop GIS routines, Internet-based GIS, databases and business apps to customize geographic information.
• Collaborate with external organizations on data transfer and system compatibility.
• Integrate external data with GIS, train users and maintain QA standards.
• Develop and manage project schedules using Microsoft Project.

The Role

We are looking for a GIS leader with a creative flare! This role is for someone who can think outside the box, is open to collaboration and has knowledge of mineral exploration and or environmental baseline monitoring. This role is suited for someone, willing to role up their sleeves and take the lead as our GIS and Data Management Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and manage a Project GIS data management system. Create compelling and informative maps and figures to support environmental permitting, marketing, community engagement and geology.
• Develop specialized computer software routines, Internet-based GIS, database and business applications to customize geographic information.
• Work with external organizations on data transfer and systems compatibility issues.
• Integrate external software such as spreadsheets and statistical packages with GIS software.
• Train and provide technical support for GIS users.
• Develop and manage company document control systems and maintain high standards of quality assurance.
• Follow all company safety and operational procedures.
• Develop and manage Project Schedules using Microsoft Project.
• Assist in creation of PowerPoint presentations, publications and marketing materials would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions
