Duration: Regular Full Time

Salary: $7,629 – 7,946 – 8,285 – 8,647 – 9,014/month (2024 Rates)

Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)

The City of Burnaby’s Corporate Services Department is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented GIS Analyst. Our GIS team is growing and expanding to support the increasing demand for GIS services in the City. Reporting to Senior Manager, GIS and Smart City Initiatives, the GIS Analyst will be responsible for leading our Park’s GIS team and GIS projects. This is complex and technical work providing leadership from initial review and analysis of business processes to final implementation and documentation of GIS solutions for Parks and various business departments and divisions. An incumbent is responsible for project management and technical leadership on GIS application projects under preliminary investigation, requirement analysis, design, configuration, documentation and implementation. Supervision, guidance and technical direction is provided to mapping and GIS technicians. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in all technical aspects of the work while policy matters and project objectives are discussed with a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of achievement of overall objectives and effectiveness of services delivered. This position may be required to work at Laurel Street Works Yard on occasion. Performs related work as required.


The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in GIS technology, with demonstrated expertise in the ESRI ArcGIS Platform (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, and Geodatabases), as well as the Safe Software platform (FME Flow-Server and FME Form-Desktop). The candidate should also be familiar with open-source GIS software and tools such as QGIS, PostGIS, and GeoServer. A solid understanding of Microsoft Power Platform tools including Power BI and Power Automate is required to support automation and data visualization initiatives. Strong proficiency in spatial data analysis, cartography, and geoprocessing is essential, along with a proven ability to lead and supervise a GIS team in a collaborative and service-oriented environment. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of managing and delivering complex GIS projects, including responsibility for planning, resourcing, stakeholder engagement, and reporting. Experience supporting business units with spatial decision-making tools and implementing enterprise GIS solutions in alignment with organizational goals and smart city strategies is also key. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, along with a strong foundation in business systems analysis and spatial data governance, will support success in this role. Qualifications include completion of a university degree at the Bachelor’s level in computer science, GIS, IT systems and processes or a related discipline with considerable experience in business systems analysis and GIS systems or, an equivalent combination of training and experience. A Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
