Job description

Our Background
At the University Hospital Foundation, we want to help people live longer, and better – especially those who would benefit from a new form of treatment, or life-saving surgery.
As agents of hope, we boldly seek solutions to seemingly insurmountable challenges, matching the determination and purpose-driven intensity of the healthcare teams we support.
In the past ten years, generous donations from individuals and our corporate and strategic partners have contributed nearly $220 million dollars to advance world-leading patient care at the University of Alberta Hospital, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and Kaye Edmonton Clinic, as well as ground-breaking research at the University of Alberta.
Your Purpose
As a Gift Shop Associate/Key Holder you will support the University Hospital Foundation Gift Shop / Emporium in providing exceptional service and contributing to specialized programs through sales, serving hospital visitors and staff with personal care items, gifts, and more, while also ensuring efficient operations and adherence to policies.
We are currently looking to expand our Gift Shop hours and looking to fill a part-time, casual position with key holder responsibilities (two different shifts of up to 14 hours / week).
Your Role
The University Hospital Foundation Gift Shop / Emporium is situated within the University of Alberta Hospital and directs the proceeds generated from sales towards specialized programs that align with the University Hospital Foundation (UHF) mission. Conveniently located at the Walter C. Mackenzie Centre, adjacent to the 114th Street entrance, the University Hospital Foundation Gift Shop / Emporium serves as a one-stop destination for hospital visitors, patients, their families, and staff offering personal care products, reading material, gifts, ornaments, clothes, and snacks.
Your responsibilities will encompass:
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to all patrons of the Gift Shop
  • Executing opening and closing procedures efficiently
  • Ensuring strict adherence to cash handling policies, processes, and protocols
  • Providing valuable support to our team of volunteers
Qualifications
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • 1+ years of retail experience
  • Point of sale and cash handling experience
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service
  • Possess a strong sense of confidentiality
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Use good judgement when applying initiative to make decisions on a daily basis
  • Be an example for others and always represent the values of the UHF which include: Customer Driven and True to our Word.
  • Able to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances and unexpected situations
