Job description

At UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, our vision is to lead the most vibrant Jewish community in North America—a community characterized by its diversity, unity, compassion, generosity, and commitment to Jewish values. Together with our philanthropic, volunteer, and professional leadership, we're changing lives.

As one of North America's leading Jewish non-profits, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto works to preserve and strengthen the quality of Jewish life in Greater Toronto, Canada, Israel, and around the world. UJA advances this mission through fundraising, programs, and research focused on our strategic pillars: fighting poverty and improving well-being, growing Jewish education and identity, countering antisemitism and hate, and strengthening connections with Israel and Jewish communities worldwide.

About the Opportunity

Situated within UJA's Integrated Development Department, UJA's Philanthropic Leadership Gifts team engages leading donors to support UJA's mission through a range of high-impact gift opportunities.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Development, the Gift Officer is an experienced critical thinker with strong communication skills, responsible for developing and implementing strategies to grow the number of high-level gifts to the Annual Campaign and transformational campaigns. S/he will research, recommend, and canvass prospects for major and top gifts, focusing on cultivation and solicitation. The role involves conducting high-level and in-depth research to find prospects whose goals and interests align with a philanthropic investment in UJA, to engage as future donors.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Achieving fundraising targets and engaging in face-to-face meetings with prospects and donors.
  2. Managing a donor portfolio of high-net-worth donors.
  3. Identifying new prospects who are non-donors, as well as existing donors with greater capacity.
  4. Cultivating a prospect pipeline and maintaining up-to-date relevant information.
  5. Working closely with the professional fundraising team to produce research profiles and reports for prospective donors.
  6. Proactively identifying prospective major donors and establishing new relationships, working cross-functionally to find the most effective donor journey.
  7. Reviewing prospect lists and providing analysis on capacity and proclivity to give.
  8. Supporting accurate data maintenance, strategic tracking, and analysis of top prospects.
  9. Drafting biographical, financial, and philanthropic bios and briefings on donors and prospects.
  10. Planning and organizing prospecting events and follow-up processes.
  11. Attending and supporting in-person events for the department and organization.
Qualifications:
  1. Relevant education or equivalent experience.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly.
  3. Experience researching prospects and donors via social media and media outlets.
  4. Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a busy environment.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and related functions; knowledge of Salesforce is an asset.
  6. Proactive with excellent organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  7. Ability to manage complex projects and budgets collaboratively.
  8. Strategic and critical thinking skills.
  9. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical capabilities with attention to detail.
  10. Enthusiasm, creativity, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  12. Maintain high discretion and confidentiality.

This is a full-time permanent position. We support a flexible work schedule with hybrid work arrangements. Engagement and connection are key to supporting the best employee experience, emphasizing balance and well-being. Our offices are closed on Jewish holy days (Yom Tov) and we support early closures for Shabbat observance.

We look forward to connecting with you to understand what you can bring to the UJA team and how we can support your career goals. Qualified applicants are invited to submit a cover letter and resume. Only those invited for interviews will be contacted.
