The opportunity

Unity's Graphics org is looking for an experienced and collaborative engineering manager to join the Render Pipelines team within the Features and Frameworks group. Our team is responsible for delivering extensible and customizable graphics features that enable creators to achieve their vision across a wide range of platforms. We focus on providing robust and flexible solutions that meet the diverse needs of developers, empowering them to create high-quality visuals for any project.

As a manager, you will lead a talented team of engineers, working to define and influence processes that ensure they are able to perform at their best and achieve their goals. You will collaborate with other Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, Graphics Architects, and Product Managers to drive technical initiatives for the team.

As a line manager, you will provide mentorship for your engineers and support them in their professional development, and be responsible for hiring.

With a focus on people, operational management, and delivery of outcomes, this role does not require hands-on coding. However, a strong technical understanding of the domain is desirable. This is an opportunity to work with a highly motivated team of skilled engineers who are pushing forward the graphics capabilities of the Unity Editor and Engine.

What you'll be doing

• Lead a team of 8-12 engineers, providing support and coaching through regular 1:1s.
• Ensure the day-to-day operations of the team run efficiently.
• Establish a culture of engineering excellence within your team, with a focus on delivering outcomes that have the highest impact.
• Take a leading role in establishing and driving team processes that raise the bar for our engineering practices.
• Take accountability for the delivery outcomes of your team and for individual engineer performance and growth.
• Collaborate with a cross-discipline team to construct our roadmap.
• Take an active part in discussions with the wider engineering organization and become an agent of change.

What we're looking for

• Experience leading small to medium sized teams working with large, sophisticated codebases.
• Has delivery experience and is able to guide a team to achieve its goals.
• Ability to support and mentor team members, building relationships of trust by example.
• Strong collaborative leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to nurture alignment between team members and partners in a distributed work environment using agile processes.
• Has an understanding of how to measure success for a high-performance engineering team.

You might also have

• Hands-on experience working with Unity.
• Previous experience working in a technical role.
• Knowledge of modern mobile GPU architectures.
