Job summary

Prairie Mountain Health is seeking an activity/recreation worker to develop and provide recreation programs focused on promoting the health, wellness, and recovery (physical and mental) of clients. The role involves collaboration with clients, families and an interdisciplinary team in line with PMH's vision, mission and values.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education as per MB Standards.
• Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience working with elderly or cognitively/physically disabled individuals.
• Two years of recent relevant experience with clients in health care or recovery settings.
• Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
• Proficiency with Microsoft programs and IT applications.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
• Problem solving, decision making and flexibility to adapt procedures.
• Clear communication and confidentiality in handling client information.
• Commitment to working with diverse populations and collaborative teams.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and implements activity and recreation programs for clients.
• Organizes and leads group activities and provides instruction for tasks.
• Communicates client progress with the interdisciplinary team and adjusts plans.
• Develops creative activities based on client interests and needs.
• Engages with external partners to develop activities and events.
• Ensures client-focused events support physical and mental well-being.
• Adheres to diagnosed medical restrictions during activities.
• Develops monthly recreation/activity calendars.
• Manages space, equipment and supply logistics for scheduled activities.
• Maintains records and statistics and prepares monthly reports.
• Keeps inventory of supplies and reorders as needed.
• Monitors for crisis situations and intervenes to de-escalate as required.
• Ensures equipment safety and proper storage.
