Lewkowich Engineering Associates Ltd. (LEA) invites applications for a Geotechnical Materials Testing Technician at our Courtenay office.

The role involves conducting field and laboratory testing on concrete, aggregate, and asphalt, under supervision, with opportunities to gain hands-on experience in geotechnical projects. You will work as part of a professional team, perform site inspections, and contribute to quality control across our projects.

Qualifications

• No experience required, but preference will be given to those with relevant prior work experience and/or education.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift and control soil samples up to approximately 50 pounds.
• Good command of English language, written and verbal.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Field and laboratory testing of concrete, aggregate, and asphalt.
• Sieve analysis.
• Proctor test.
• Casting of concrete strength cylinders.
• Preparation and breaking of concrete strength cylinders.
• Concrete slump and air content testing.
• Marshall compliance testing.

• Rebar pull-out testing.
• Operation and testing with a nuclear gauge.

LEA provides geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and hazardous building materials testing services to Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, and the surrounding Gulf Islands, with offices in Nanaimo and Courtenay. We have a fulltime team of thirty-five employees, including Professional Engineers and Geoscientists, certified technologists and technicians, industrial hygienists, and administration staff.

Who You Are

We are looking for a geotechnical materials testing technician to join our established team working out of our Courtenay office.

You are a detailed oriented individual who enjoys working outside and in an office environment.

You are able to work as part of a team in a professional environment, but at the same time able to work independently with strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task.

You are comfortable and have experience working on construction sites. Prior experience with earthworks/concrete construction and an interest in construction technology.

You are a proactive person, but also someone who can react efficiently and effectively to manage problems.

Key Qualifications

This is a permanent, full-time position, offering a 40-hour work week, and a Monday to Friday schedule.

Competitive wage of $25 to $40 per hour depending on experience.
