Job summary

SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician to support transit projects in Ontario. You will supervise drilling, collect soil samples and logs, and work with multidisciplinary teams to meet project objectives.

Responsibilities include field investigations, soil/rock and groundwater analysis, and report preparation, while ensuring health and safety and client satisfaction. Experience and a degree in a related field are required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience conducting or supervising geotechnical field investigations, including knowledge of drilling/coring methodologies (SPT, PQ/HQ coring, CPT) and soil identification and sampling procedures.
  • CET or CTech preferred.
  • University degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology or Geology.
  • Highly technical abilities in environmental site assessment and remediation design, combined with a mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment/remediation systems/techniques.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as advanced technical writing abilities.
  • Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, and put forth creative solutions.

  • Conduct asphalt and concrete coring operations; collect geotechnical soil and asphalt samples.
  • Observe and record site conditions, drainage patterns and construction operations.
  • Support for laboratory and factual reporting teams.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver project objectives on time and within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and health & safety regulations.
  • Oversee field investigations, observe borehole drilling and asphalt/concrete coring, and
  • Support inspection and instrumentation implementation as required during construction/pre-construction monitoring.
  • Conduct site investigations and soil sampling.
  • Analyze soil, rock, and groundwater conditions.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis and interpret data.
  • Experience in completing peer reviews of technical documents and reports.
  • Draw on technical skills and expertise to design, install, and conduct ongoing maintenance of remediation systems.
  • Scope & Report preparation.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships in various industries.

Salary Range for the role is between $70,000 - $90,000.
