COWI is excited to announce a leadership opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineering Manager position located in our vibrant Toronto office. If you’re passionate about driving innovation in the infrastructure sector and leading a dynamic team, this national role is perfect for you!

In this key position, you will have the unique opportunity to lead and grow a talented team of geotechnical and tunnel engineers located across Canada, primarily in our Toronto and Vancouver offices. Your team will play a critical role in delivering a diverse array of underground infrastructure projects throughout North America, including pioneering work in the Infrastructure Sector (transit, bridges, tunnels, and marine projects) and the Water Sector (water tunnels and dams).

As an essential member of our leadership team, reporting directly to the Vice President, Head of Engineering Canada, you will manage and nurture the development of your staff while collaborating with other managers to optimize staffing and workforce planning processes. Your insights into individual skills and capabilities will contribute significantly to talent identification, recruitment, and professional development within COWI.

Your key responsibilities will include :

People Management :

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to assigned staff, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend competitive salaries based on achievements.
  • Support professional development by identifying opportunities for skill enhancement.
  • Define and monitor staff performance targets to ensure accountability.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and communicate a clear vision and strategy for the team.
  • Build a diverse and inclusive team, serving as an ambassador for COWI’s values.

Project Delivery :

  • Serve as project manager, design manager, or technical specialist on diverse projects for public, private, or contractor partners. Project will vary in size and complexity.
  • Provide design management and technical expertise to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Oversee the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents.

As a Member of the Canada Leadership Team :

  • Participate in strategy meetings to contribute to COWI Group's strategic priorities.
  • Ensure COWI North America meets or exceeds its strategic targets.
  • Lead business development and marketing efforts, pursuing project opportunities and representing the Company in external settings, such as technical committees, conferences, seminars, professional bodies, and business groups
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients to support growth.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in a consulting environment, with a focus on geotechnical or tunnel projects.
  • Proven project management and / or line management experience, with a track record of relevant technical engineering expertise.
  • Strong experience in team development, with skills in mentoring, coaching, and providing constructive feedback to team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others through change while showing genuine interest in employee career development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with effective time management abilities and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
