Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in Training to contribute to safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure projects across Western Canada. You will gain hands-on experience through field drilling, sampling, test pit programs, and in-situ testing, while supporting foundation design and geohazard evaluations.

You'll work with multidisciplinary teams on transportation, municipal, buildings, and energy projects, pursuing EIT registration and embracing safe work practices on

Qualifications

  • Hands-on geotechnical experience through academics, co-ops, or early projects.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and travel to field sites.
  • Familiar with GeoStudio, gINT, ArcGIS, AutoCAD or similar tools.
  • Committed to safe work practices on every site.
  • Pursuing EIT registration with provincial regulator.

Responsibilities

  • Support geotechnical investigations including field drilling, sampling, test pits, and in-situ testing.
  • Analyze soil, rock, and groundwater data for foundation design and slope stability.
  • Prepare technical reports and data summaries for client decisions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on transportation, municipal, buildings, and energy projects.
  • Contribute to construction monitoring and QA for safe project delivery.

As a Geotechnical Engineer in Training, you’ll gain hands‑on experience on meaningful projects while building the foundation for your professional engineering journey.

Your Impact
  • Support geotechnical investigations, including field drilling, sampling, test pit programs, and in‑situ testing.
  • Analyze soil, rock, and groundwater data to support foundation design, slope stability assessments, and geohazard evaluations.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, memos, and data summaries that support client decisions and project development.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions for transportation, municipal, buildings, and energy‑related projects.
  • Contribute to construction monitoring, geotechnical inspections, and quality assurance activities to ensure safe and compliant project delivery.
  • Apply innovative thinking to support sustainable design approaches and minimize environmental impacts.

  • You’re comfortable working outdoors, traveling to field sites, and contributing to field programs in varying conditions.
  • You bring familiarity with tools such as GeoStudio, gINT, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or similar platforms — and you’re eager to grow those skills.
  • You meet all safety requirements and are committed to safe work practices on every site.
  • You’re pursuing or eligible for registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) with your provincial engineering regulator.

Compensation
  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $66,700 – $88,400
  • MB & ON: $60,900 – $83,800
  • NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $60,300 – $80,000
