This opportunity offers a full-time career-oriented position with our growing and dynamic team of Earth and Environmental professionals. In this role, you’ll have the ability to collaborate seamlessly with EXP’s multidisciplinary team in Halifax Nova Scotia, within the region and across the company on some of Atlantic Canada’s largest and most exciting projects!

Your Role & Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with Project Managers, the successful candidate will be responsible mainly for various field inspections and investigations, the completion of laboratory testing, and associated reporting for construction projects and investigations.
  • Executing geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations, including test pit and borehole investigations, logging and sampling of soils, groundwater, and bedrock.
  • Executing laboratory materials testing (concrete compressive strength testing, grain size analysis, proctors, etc.) and field inspection work as may be necessary (asphalt – field compaction, concrete – field casting of concrete cylinders, slump, air content, and soil – field compaction testing).
  • Executing assignments requiring general familiarity with a broad field of materials laboratory/field testing, geotechnical engineering, general construction, earth moving projects and civil engineering.
  • Construction oversite for buildings, bridges and other infrastructure.
  • Developing technical knowledge of pile foundation inspection and PDA testing.
  • Developing technical skills in Geotechnical Analyses including, bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, seepage, etc.
  • Preparing clear and concise laboratory testing and field inspection reports, and reviewing, as necessary, laboratory and field inspection reports.
  • Assisting senior staff with writing technical reports.
  • Working with senior staff when dealing with difficult, complex and unusual matters and decisions.
  • Continuing own technical skills development and propagation of those skills to others.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree in Civil Engineering.
  • EIT designation, or the ability to obtain the designation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work both outside and in an office environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as advanced technical writing abilities.
  • Strong computer skills using word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics applications such as MS Word, Excel, AutoCAD, GIS.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills.
  • Applies knowledge with CCIL, ASTM and CSA testing methodology and laboratory and field testing procedures.
  • Willingness to travel and participate in field work.
  • Be a motivated self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license and reliable vehicle.
