AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to grow our geotechnical practice from Halifax, NS. The role is full-time and hybrid, delivering practical geotechnical solutions and contributing to Atlantic Canada growth across transportation, water resources, and infrastructure sectors.

The successful candidate will have a civil/geotechnical background with P.Eng. licensure and 4+ years of experience, plus proficiency in geotechnical software and MS Office, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering is required.
  • P.Eng. licensure is required.
  • 4+ years of geotechnical or civil engineering experience since graduation.
  • Commitment to health and safety and ability to work on active sites.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel, Teams and Word; strong English communication.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver geotechnical engineering support across project phases (planning, field investigations, analysis, design, reporting, construction).
  • Plan and manage geotechnical investigations with subcontractors and oversee fieldwork.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis and design for foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, and related systems.
  • Prepare and review geotechnical deliverables and seal as required.
  • Provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assist proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for geotechnical work.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to help expand and grow our geotechnical practice in Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will be based out of our Halifax, NS office and will work in a full-time, hybrid role.

In this role, we will rely on you to deliver practical, constructible, and cost-effective geotechnical solutions and to contribute to the continued growth of our geotechnical capabilities across Atlantic Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver geotechnical engineering support across project phases, including planning, field investigations, analysis, design, reporting, and construction.
  • Plan and manage geotechnical investigations, including subcontractor coordination (e.g., drilling, traffic control), fieldwork execution oversight, and interpretive reporting.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis and design related to shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, embankments, marine works, railways, highways, airports, excavation support systems, tunnels, trenchless, and ground improvement methods.
  • Support projects in sectors such as transportation, water resources, marine, civil infrastructure, energy, and buildings.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, calculations, specifications, and design deliverables; review and seal deliverables as required.
  • Provide technical leadership within multi-disciplinary teams, coordinating effectively with designers, drafters, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Support business development by preparing proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for geotechnical assignments.
  • Maintain quality and consistency of deliverables; identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and partner consultants.
  • Travel within Canada when required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • 4+ years of relevant geotechnical or civil engineering experience since graduation (e.g., transportation, municipal, civil infrastructure, energy, utilities, buildings, or commercial).
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety, including working safely on active sites.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including strong capabilities in Excel, Teams, and Word.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Postgraduate degree (M.A.Sc., M.Eng., or PhD) in a relevant discipline.
  • Rock mechanics experience and project exposure.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, RS2/RS3, Slide, GeoStudio, Settle3D, All Piles, gINT, and/or EQuIS.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Construction-phase experience, including construction oversight, quality assurance/quality control, and contract administration.
  • Geo-environmental and soil remediation experience.
  • Experience coordinating designs with drafting teams and/or proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors (e.g., drilling, traffic control).
  • French written and oral communication skills.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $85000 to $115000.
