MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to work on a 1-year contract (with high potential of renewal) for one of BC's largest utility and energy companies.
The Geotechnical Engineer will work on Distribution Engineering underground and overhead civil-geotechnical detailed design, assessment, and construction phase support. Work may include response to weather-related geotechnical issues.
Location: Burnaby, BC | In office for first 6 months then hybrid after training
Responsibilities:
- Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgment on medium complexity assignments, including developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications.
- Assist project or operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans, recommending payment for completed work, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules.
- Resolve highly technical design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, and recommending safe engineering designs for project completion.
- Participate in engineering practices by conducting independent studies, contributing to the development of technical standards, and providing guidance to other professionals to support future capabilities.
Requirements:Must haves:- Minimum 8 years as geotechnical engineer in British Columbia and collaborate well working in a multi-discipline team
- Registered P.Eng. (geotechnical discipline with good understanding of civil infrastructure in public) in good standing with EGBC
- Current confined space entry training
- PSSP 2, 3, and DBC (can be provided by the client)
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver License - must be willing to travel including by car, plane, and boat
- Must be independent and work effectively with minimal interaction.
- Must be knowledgeable and comfortable using the latest remote working technologies to correspond and collaborate with project stakeholders.
- Must be able to work from home efficiently and effectively if required.
- Must be willing to work from the office in Burnaby 5 days per week during training (potentially first 6-7 months). The role will then switch to hybrid (2 days in the office after training)
Nice to haves:- Experience with and working in Canadian electric utility
