Job summary

Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. is seeking geoscience professionals for field-based geotechnical and environmental projects with a Fall 2026 start in Alberta. You will engage in drilling, logging, sampling, and laboratory testing across mining, civil, and municipal work.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and professional growth, including field operations, data interpretation, and client liaison on multi-discipline projects in remote Fort McMurray areas.

Qualifications

  • A degree/diploma in Geology or Earth Science, Geoscience or Geo Environmental, or an equivalent combination of education/field experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driver abstract.
  • Ability to perform physical field work and pass a fitness-for-work test in safety-sensitive environments.

Responsibilities

  • Drill monitoring and geological logging.
  • Core description and sampling.
  • Geotechnical investigations, sampling and installations.
  • Groundwater monitoring and pump testing.
  • Soil/surface-water sampling and environmental field programs.
  • Soil, aggregate, and concrete testing; earthwork inspections; piling monitoring; construction QA.
  • Technical reporting, data collection/interpretation, client relations, and project documentation.

About the Role

Our projects are diverse and include geotechnical/civil engineering, QA/QC construction monitoring, drill monitoring, geo-environmental monitoring, site investigations, foundation inspections, and soil and concrete lab testing. We work across various industries, from open-pit mining environments to municipal infrastructure projects.

We are currently hiring individuals with a Geoscience background to work on a multitude of differing drilling, mining, heavy civil and municipal projects. We anticipate this position to have a Fall 2026 start date.

What We Look For

We are seeking individuals with:

  • A degree/diploma in Geology or Earth Science, Geoscience, Geo Environmental or an equivalent combination of education and /or field experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
  • A valid driver’s license and a driver abstract in good standing.
  • Individuals who can complete physical field work and pass a fitness-for-work test.Individuals that are capable of working in safety-sensitive environments and can meet drug and alcohol testing requirements.Individuals who want to learn, share, and grow themselves and the business.
Additional Assets
  • Experience in a technical field-based role is an asset, as is experience in the geoscience industry.
  • Proficiency in off-road 4x4 driving and winter conditions.
  • BSO/CSO, H2S & CCIL certification.
  • Membership with ASET or APEGA are considered additional advantages.
  • Opportunities are primarily based in Fort McMurray.
  • Fieldwork includes 12-hour shifts (day/night) in various project environments.
