Job summary

Canadian Natural invites aspiring Geophysicists to join our Calgary team for a 4- or 8-month internship. You will assist senior geophysicists, perform QC of well logs and seismic datasets, and help interpret subsurface features to support discovery and development.

Applicants must be enrolled in a Geophysics bachelor’s or master's program, be physically and mentally fit, and capable of working independently as well as in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assist area Geophysicists with exploration and development projects.
  • Perform quality control and interpretation of well logs and 2D/3D/4D seismic datasets.
  • Integrate well and seismic data to support subsurface understanding.
  • Interpret geological features and generate maps (structure, amplitude, isochron).
  • Apply seismic attributes and data analysis to identify reservoirs and characterize subsurface properties.
  • Collaborate with geophysicists, geologists, and engineers to support exploration, risk assessment, and development planning.
  • Prepare and present technical findings with clear visuals and effective communication.

The Opportunity:

Geophysicists at Canadian Natural delineate reserves, identify geohazards, and predict the source of Earth's subsurface anomalies.

Join us on an adventure where you will map out potential oil and gas reservoirs, analyze seismic data like a detective, and play a vital role in unlocking energy resources deep in the subsurface.

  • Job location:Calgary, AB – Head Office
  • Shift schedule:5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday - Friday)
  • Term lengths:4 months or 8 months
  • Term starts:January or May 2027

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist area Geophysicists with ongoing exploration and development projects by:
  • Perform quality control and interpretation of well logs and 2D/3D/4D seismic datasets
  • Integrate well and seismic data (e.g., well ties, synthetics, forward modelling) to support subsurface understanding
  • Interpret key geological features and generate maps (structure, amplitude, isochron)
  • Apply seismic attributes and data analysis techniques to identify reservoirs and characterize subsurface properties
  • Collaborate with geophysicists, geologists, and engineers to support exploration, risk assessment, and development planning
  • Prepare and present technical findings using clear visuals and effective communication

What You Bring to The Role:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Geophysics (recent new graduates of an accredited institution will also be considered)
  • Required to be physically and mentally fit for work
  • Motivated self-starter who can thrive as an independent worker and in team settings
  • A sense of ownership and responsibility for project outcomes, and the ability to work effectively in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams
