Job summary

EVR in British Columbia is seeking a Geologist or Geologist-in-Training to support coal quality and production geology activities at Greenhills Operations, collaborating with Engineering, Mine Operations, and Processing teams.

The role offers exposure to field and office geology, with development opportunities in the Engineering and Geology teams. Strong safety focus and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Geological Engineering.
  • Registered as a GIT or eligible to register with EGBC.
  • Mining experience is an asset, especially open-pit operations.
  • Strong interest in mining geology, coal quality, and mine operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Power BI, geophysical logging, Python is a plus.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Strong communication and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and manage priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in health, safety, and environmental programs and procedures.
  • Work with Mine Operations to recover planned seams with minimal loss and dilution.
  • Conduct pit sampling to collect geological, coal quality, and oxide data.
  • Provide mining packages and guidance on seam locations, priorities, and stockpile management.
  • Develop coal blending strategies to maximize processing performance and meet specs.
  • Collaborate with Mine Operations and Processing to troubleshoot quality and processing issues.
  • Support geophysical logging programs for production drillholes, including gamma logging.
  • Maintain geological databases and support reporting, reconciliation, and modelling.
  • Assist with coal quality control initiatives and provide technical support.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Geologist or Geologist-in-Training supports coal quality and production geology activities at Greenhills Operations. Working closely with Engineering, Mine Operations, and Processing teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the effective recovery, quality control, and blending of coal released during the mining process. This role provides exposure to both field and office-based geological activities and offers development opportunities within the Engineering and Geology teams.

In this role you will
  • Participate in and adhere to health, safety, and environmental programs and procedures
  • Work closely with Mine Operations to recover planned coal seams while minimizing coal loss and dilution
  • Conduct pit sampling programs to collect geological, coal quality, and oxide coal data
  • Provide coal mining packages and guidance including seam locations, mining priorities, seam cleaning requirements, and stockpile management
  • Develop and implement coal blending strategies to maximize processing performance and ensure product quality specifications are met
  • Collaborate with Mine Operations and Processing teams to troubleshoot coal feed, quality, and processing issues and support effective solutions
  • Support geophysical logging programs for production drillholes, including gamma logging activities
  • Maintain geological databases and support geological reporting, reconciliation, and modelling activities
  • Assist with coal quality control initiatives and provide technical support to operational teams as required
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related discipline
  • Registered as a GIT or eligible to register with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
  • Previous mining experience is considered an asset, particularly in open-pit truck-and-shovel operations
  • Strong interest in mining geology, coal quality, and mine operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience with acQuire, MinePlan, Power BI, geological databases, geophysical logging systems, or Python is considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment while managing competing priorities
Salary

$91,300 - $126,800 CAD/year

For applicants registered as an EIT or GIT, annual base salary will be determined by EVR's formal progression matrix based on verified relevant years of experience.

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
