Northern Hawk Energy Ltd. (“Northern Hawk”) is a growing junior energy company based in Calgary. Northern Hawk’s experienced management team has a track record of success and significant depth of experience in the Canadian Oil and Gas sector. The company currently owns and operates a thermal heavy oil project near Kerrobert, SK. Northern Hawk has a solid base of production and cashflow and plans to continue to grow both our production and our team over the next few years.

What we are Looking for

Northern Hawk Energy Ltd. is looking for a motivated and inquisitive Geologist to join our team. Reporting to the VP Exploration and Geoscience, the selected individual will be responsible for providing integrated geologic interpretations, planning, and executing delineation and horizontal SAGD well campaigns to support current and future Heavy Oil projects in Saskatchewan. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, collaborative, outcome-focused, and possess a positive attitude. This is a full-time, contract position based in Calgary, including periodic on-call responsibilities outside normal office hours.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Well planning, licensing, and delivery/execution: project management, subsurface inputs, risk identification/mitigation, horizontal well landing, and geo-steering.
  2. On-call responsibilities working directly with wellsite geologists and drilling engineers to deliver lateral trajectories that maximize resource recovery.
  3. Integrate geological data such as core, logs, and petrophysical data to understand the pad area and optimize lateral trajectories through geo-steering.
  4. Support efforts to appraise and delineate potential resources for future thermal development.
  5. Support project delivery by compiling pre-drill and post-drill data, preparing documentation and presentations for technical reviews, lookbacks, and knowledge sharing.
  6. Support near-field exploration and delineation through mapping, detailed geological evaluation, value capture, and risk mitigation.
  7. Provide geological support to M&A activities.

What You Bring to the Role

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5-10 years of experience with a Master of Science in Geology.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and outcome-oriented.
  • Ability to work closely with others to develop and mature ideas.
  • Nimbleness and adaptability to evolving roles and duties.
  • Understanding of Mannville stratigraphy and depositional environments, especially in eastern Alberta and western Saskatchewan.
  • Proficiency in geoscience software such as geoSCOUT and Seisware, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in horizontal well planning/drilling, preferably managing well delivery from the office.
  • Experience in core collection, description, and interpretation.
  • Ability to integrate seismic, core, well log, and other data into geological models.
  • Proven ability to generate and develop prospects.
  • Registration with APEGA, with eligibility for APEGS accreditation.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.

What We Offer

  • A safe, respectful workplace valuing trust, open communication, and idea sharing.
  • Engaged leadership committed to employee and company success.
  • Competitive salary, benefits, and opportunities for growth and innovation.
