Placements24 is seeking a diligent Geological Technician to support the geological team in Kimberley, Northern Cape. The role involves field sampling, lab prep, data entry, and collaboration with geologists to ensure accurate geological information for exploration projects.

You will collect samples, prepare them for analysis, log results, maintain equipment, and adhere to health, safety, and environmental procedures. On-site position with opportunities for training.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related technical field.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant field or laboratory geological support experience.
• Familiarity with geological sampling techniques and basic laboratory procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Collect geological samples (rock, core, cuttings) from field sites and drill sites.
• Prepare samples for analysis, including crushing, grinding, and logging.
• Perform basic laboratory tests and analyses under the supervision of geologists.
• Assist with the operation and maintenance of geological equipment and instruments.
• Maintain accurate records of sample locations, descriptions, and analytical results.
• Enter geological data into databases and assist with data quality control.
• Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and other visual aids.
• Assist in maintaining geological sample storage and organization.
• Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
