This is an exciting opportunity for a Geohazards Engineer to contribute technical expertise while shaping the strategic direction of the business unit. The ideal candidate will be responsible for project management, technical assessments, client engagement, and business development efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The key job functions are:

  • Technical Assessments & Mitigation:Conduct geohazard evaluations, including slope stability, water crossings, and terrain stability assessments, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Project Management:Oversee geotechnical field investigations, direct GIS data compilation for geohazard projects, and ensure adherence to industry best practices.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication:Prepare technical reports, lead discussions with regulatory bodies, sub-consultants, and internal stakeholders, and build strong client relationships.
  • Business Development & Proposal Writing:Assist in identifying growth opportunities, preparing proposals, budgeting, and securing new projects to expand the firm’s geohazard services.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geological Engineering.
  • Advanced degree or relevant certification is an asset.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with a provincial regulatory body.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of hydrological and geotechnical engineering principles as they apply to geohazards.
  • Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive technical experience in geotechnical and geohazard assessments.
  • Proven experience in slope stability, hydrology, and scour assessment calculations.
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring junior professionals, and managing geohazard-related projects.
  • Hands-on field experience is an asset.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities with the autonomy to manage projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings effectively.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with business development and client engagement.
  • Proficiency in GIS data interpretation and geotechnical analysis software.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.

Base Salary:$110,000-150,000 per year

  • Competitive salary based on experience and APEGA guidelines.
  • Salary structure includes performance-based incentives.

Work Hours:

  • 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Remote Work:

  • This position is primarily on-site(either in Calgary office, or Edmonton office), with some flexibility for remote work based on project needs.

  • This opportunity does not include relocation. It will be the responsibility of the candidate should relocation be required.
