We have offices in Oxford, Lancaster and Cambridge and are a registered charity. We are interested in hearing from applicants at varying stages in their career. We will make appointments at the upper end of the salary range for those with the right skills and experience

Due to an expanding work programme Oxford Archaeology are looking to employ additional geoarchaeologists at a range of levels to work on a diverse and exciting portfolio of projects. You will be working within a team of highly qualified specialists from a range of disciplines, committed to promoting a holistic and integrated approach to archaeological, palaeoenvironmental and landscape investigation. OA are committed to inclusivity and collaboration, working cross-sector with both commercial and academic partners, and have a reputation for quality, innovation, and digital enterprise.

We welcome applications at Assistant Supervisor grade from motivated and talented field or palaeoenvironmental archaeologists in the early stages of their career with some element of geoarchaeological experience who aspire to diversify their skillset or specialise. We are also looking to appoint experienced geoarchaeologists at Supervisor and Project Officer grade, to take on a leading role on some of our medium sized projects, and larger more complex infrastructure projects. Candidates at Supervisor grade and above will have the opportunity to work out of any of our three regional offices. Candidates at Assistant Supervisor grade will be based in Oxford during the initial six months although other locations and work on ‘away-based’ sites will be considered where appropriate mentorship can be arranged.

Our work typically includes desk-based assessments, landform mapping and predictive deposit modelling, borehole, auger and test pit surveys, site visits and sampling during evaluation trenching and excavations, as well as post-excavation lab assessment, analysis and reporting for publication. Integration and analysis of data using geological modelling software (Rockworks) and GIS, alongside OA’s WebMap and Digital Recording System, is an important aspect of our work. OA is committed to staff development, offering long-term career progression through in-house training and mentorship.

The activities, level of work and responsibilities will be dependent on experience, qualifications and individual specialisms. Geoarchaeologists generally work in the field (including ‘away based’ sites) as well as undertaking office-based duties. and typically operate in collaboration with OA’s field and PX teams in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures and under operational management of OA’s Head of Geoarchaeology.

Applicants should be members, or eligible for membership, of CIfA at the appropriate level. A clean UK driving license and a willingness to drive company vehicles is essential at all levels. In return, we offer an exciting range of employee benefits.
