Your Opportunity:

Description:

As a Genetics Counsellor I, you will determine a patient or family's risk for a genetic condition, interpret test results, analyze inheritance patterns and risks of occurrence or recurrence, and review available options with the individual/family in a manner that promotes informed choice. You will assist patients, families, and medical care providers to understand and adapt to the medical, psychological, and familial implications of genetics in disease. Additionally, you will guide discussions about testing options, test result interpretation, prevention, medical management, newborn metabolic screening, and prenatal diagnosis options. You will provide supportive counselling with sensitivity to ethnic and cultural diversity and address potential ethical issues. Furthermore, you will serve as a patient advocate, refer individuals and families to support services, and act as an educator and resource for healthcare professionals and the public.

  • Location: Royal Alexandra Hospital, with hybrid work eligibility within Alberta
  • FTE: 0.84
  • Posting End Date: 05-MAY-2025
  • Employee Class: Regular Part Time
  • Start Date: 15-MAY-2025
  • Hours per Shift: 7.75
  • Shift Pattern: Days, 5-week cycle, 21 shifts, weekends off
  • Salary Range: $42.69 - $56.80 per hour

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Genetic Counselling
  • Certification or eligibility for certification by CAGC and/or ABGC

Additional Requirements:

  • 1-3 years experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine; Women's Health experience preferred
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, organizational, and conflict management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, with reliability and dependability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, MS Teams, Word, and Excel
  • Position based in the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, involves sitting for long periods working with a computer

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Connect Care in an Ambulatory setting and Astraia proficiency is an asset
