Job description

Requirements:

  • Master of Science in Genetic Counselling from an accredited program.
  • Certification by the Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling (CBGC) and/or the American Board of Genetic Counsellors (ABGC).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in genetic counselling, particularly in cancer, cardiac genetics, and prenatal/pre-conception genetics.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical, clinical, and laboratory genetics principles.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct genetic risk assessments and provide comprehensive counseling for clients at risk of hereditary conditions, particularly in cancer and cardiac genetics.
  • Review, interpret, and communicate genetic test results to clients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate with physicians and nurse practitioners to integrate genetic data into personalized care plans.
  • Stay updated on provincial genetic testing processes and coordinate with private genetic testing entities when necessary.
  • Facilitate client decision-making regarding their genetic health by offering support and guidance.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of client care strategies.
  • Engage in continuous education to stay current with advancements in genetic counseling and emerging trends.
