Job summary

Agnico Eagle Mines Limited is seeking a General Supervisor, Metallurgy for its Hope Bay operations in the Canadian Arctic. The role leads the metallurgy team through readiness, commissioning, ramp-up and steady-state production, ensuring process performance and safety across the plant.

You will coordinate with Engineering, Construction, Operations and Maintenance to optimize gold processing circuits and drive improvements while developing systems, procedures, and KPIs to monitor performance.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute the Metallurgy Operational Readiness Plan in alignment with the overall Process Plant readiness strategy;
  • Provide metallurgical input to Engineering, Construction, Operations, Maintenance, Automation, Laboratory, and Commissioning teams during design, construction, commissioning, and ramp-up;
  • Review process design information, metallurgical test work, flowsheets, control philosophy, operating parameters, and commissioning plans to identify operational risks and improvement opportunities;
  • Build the metallurgy team structure and support the recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of metallurgy personnel;
  • Lead the metallurgy team through operational readiness, commissioning, ramp-up, and transition to steady-state production;
  • Develop and implement metallurgical systems, standards, procedures, sampling plans, metallurgical accounting processes, reporting tools, and key performance indicators;
  • Establish process control strategies, operating guidelines, mass balance systems, and performance monitoring tools for key plant circuits;
  • Provide technical leadership during commissioning and ramp-up by monitoring plant performance, troubleshooting process issues, and recommending corrective actions;
  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance to optimize plant availability, recovery, throughput, reagent consumption, energy efficiency, and process stability;
  • Support the development of budgets, reagent forecasts, consumable requirements, laboratory requirements, and Life of Mine planning inputs;
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants, vendors, laboratories, and external technical partners;
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence within the metallurgy team and across the process plant.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • University degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • 8+ years of experience in mining process plant operations, preferably in gold processing;
  • Experience in operational readiness, commissioning, ramp-up, and/or start-up of a mineral processing plant is considered a strong asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop technical teams in a dynamic operational environment;
  • Strong knowledge of gold processing circuits, including crushing, grinding, gravity concentration, flotation, leaching, adsorption/recovery, detoxification, tailings, water management, and refinery operations;
  • Experience developing metallurgical accounting systems, sampling programs, KPI dashboards, operating procedures, and performance reporting tools;
  • Strong technical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to convert plant data into practical operational recommendations;
  • Experience with process control, plant automation, and operational improvement initiatives;
  • Strong planning, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with cross-functional teams;
  • Cultural awareness and understanding of work in the Canadian Arctic is considered an asset;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Note that the official working language at Hope Bay is English.

Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: Variable schedule according to the project phase and operational requirements;
  • During the early project phase, the role may involve Monday-to-Friday remote or office-based work with regular site visits and as the project advances toward commissioning and ramp-up, the role will gradually transition to 21 days on / 21 days off, site-based rotation aligned with operational needs;
  • Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
