Job summary

Bird is seeking a General Superintendent - Industrial East to lead field construction on large industrial projects in Canada. You will drive safety, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations across multi-discipline teams on complex sites.

Reporting to the Project Director, you’ll mentor Superintendents and forepersons, manage unionized and non-union labor, and collaborate with clients, consultants and partners to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive construction experience with leadership on large projects.
• Experience leading projects valued between $50M and $200M+.
• Proven ability to manage multiple site supervision teams and complex subcontractor scopes.
• Strong understanding of scheduling, sequencing, and field productivity management.
• Demonstrated success delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of construction methods, safety practices, and quality management systems.
• Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.

General Superintendent - Industrial EastThe General Superintendent is responsible for leading all field construction activities on large and complex construction projects ranging from $100 million to $350 million + in value. Reporting to the Project Director, this role provides overall site leadership, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules, budgets, quality requirements, and client expectations.

What You Will Be Working On

• 10+ years of progressive construction experience with significant leadership responsibilities on large commercial, industrial, infrastructure, institutional, or energy projects.
• Experience leading projects valued between $50 million and $200 million+.
• Proven ability to manage multiple site supervision teams and complex subcontractor scopes.
• Strong understanding of project scheduling, construction sequencing, and field productivity management.
• Demonstrated success delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, safety practices, and quality management systems.
• Ability to effectively manage changing priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
• Proficient with construction management software and project documentation processes.

What We Are Looking For

• Journeyperson certification, trade background, or equivalent field construction experience is considered an asset.
• Experience delivering projects under various contract models, including Lump Sum, Design-Build, Construction Management, and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
• Strong understanding of project controls, including cost management, forecasting, scheduling, and recovery planning.
• Experience leading large unionized and non-unionized workforces, including the management of multiple site supervision teams, self-perform crews, and subcontracted trade partners.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, mentor, and lead Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Forepersons, and field staff.
• Experience working on complex construction projects involving civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes, including active operating facilities, industrial plants, or brownfield environments.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, local building codes, construction regulations, permitting requirements, and quality management systems.
• Proficiency with scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent construction management tools.
• Working knowledge of Lean Construction principles and Last Planner System methodologies is considered an asset.
• Proven ability to build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project stakeholders while effectively managing conflict and driving project success.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and risk management skills, with the ability to proactively identify challenges and implement mitigation strategie
