BC Cancer - Kelowna is looking for a family physician to work full time within the Gynecologic Oncology division as a General Practitioner in Oncology (GPO). The GPO works collaboratively with Gynecologic Oncologists and other medical specialists, nurses, and clerical staff in an interdisciplinary environment. The role includes ambulatory care of patients on therapy and in follow-up, with some inpatient care responsibilities. There is no on-call requirement for this position.


Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior, located in Kelowna, BC, offers comprehensive services in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Palliative care, and support services such as Nutrition, Clinical Trials, and Patient and Family Counseling.


Applicants must be licensed to practice as a family physician in British Columbia and meet the requirements for appointment as a member of the medical staff at BC Cancer and Kelowna General Hospital. While inpatient and oncology experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory. Support for developing oncology-specific expertise will be provided.

  • Deep understanding of Indigenous-specific racism and systemic oppression, with the ability to articulate and share their learning journey to inspire others.
  • Knowledge of the social, economic, political realities affecting Indigenous peoples, and a commitment to legislative obligations and provincial commitments such as the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, In Plain Sight, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, UNDRIP, and related initiatives.

Core competencies include:

  • An understanding of Indigenous-specific and systemic racism within healthcare, with initiatives demonstrated to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety and a sense of belonging for all.
  • Awareness of the historical and social contexts of settler colonialism and experience addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism and cultural safety, aligned with legislative commitments.
