Regular Full / Part-Time, Flexible FTE

BC Cancer – Kelowna is seeking a family physician to work full-time within the Gynecologic Oncology division as a General Practitioner in Oncology (GPO). The GPO collaborates with Gynecologic Oncologists, other medical specialists, nurses, and clerical staff in an interdisciplinary environment. Responsibilities include ambulatory care for patients on therapy and follow-up, with some inpatient care support. This role does not involve on-call duties.

Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior, located in Kelowna, BC, offers comprehensive services including Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, and support services such as Nutrition, Clinical Trials, and Counseling for Patients and Families.

Applicants must be licensed to practice as a family physician in British Columbia and meet the criteria for appointment at BC Cancer and Kelowna General Hospital. While inpatient and oncology experience are assets, they are not mandatory. The department will support the successful candidate in developing necessary oncology expertise. Appointment to the University of British Columbia is also required.

  • Knowledge of the social, economic, and political realities of settler-colonialism and its impact on Indigenous peoples, along with a commitment to legislative obligations and provincial commitments such as the TRC Calls to Action, In Plain Sight, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, UNDRIP, and others.

Core Competencies include:

  • An understanding of Indigenous-specific and systemic racism within healthcare, with initiatives demonstrated to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety and a sense of belonging for all.
  • Awareness of the realities of settler colonialism and familiarity with anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety frameworks and legislative commitments.
