Role and Facility Information

Come work as Surgical Pathology Fellowship with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) is offering a one-year hospital-based fellowship in surgical pathology beginning July 1, 2024 and/or July 1, 2025. VGH is a large academic hospital with numerous cancer programs, serving as a tertiary referral surgical center for the province of British Columbia. Our Anatomical Pathology division provides subspecialty consultative service for a high volume of in-house specimens (including a busy frozen section service) and outside referral cases, including support from our in-house Molecular Pathology laboratory. Fellowship opportunities are available in the following subspecialty areas:

  1. Gastrointestinal/liver pathology including transplant pathology
  2. Genitourinary pathology
  3. Thoracic pathology
  4. Head and neck pathology
  5. Bone and soft tissue pathology

One fellowship will be available each year. The successful candidate will be able to tailor the fellowship to a primary subspecialty focus and secondary focus if required (preferably 1-2 focused areas). Fellows will participate in multi-disciplinary cancer conferences and weekly intra-departmental rounds. Exposure to quality activities is also encouraged. Fellows will also be given an opportunity to participate in one or more research projects.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum requirements include: MD degree (or equivalent); board eligibility or certification in anatomical pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent). In accordance with Canadian Employment and Immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply.   2. Board eligibility or certification in anatomical pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent)

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
