The General Manager will report to the Vice President, Retail Operations and is responsible for the overall performance of Willowbrook Shopping Centre including financial, physical, team leadership, tenant relations, guest services and risk management.

The successful candidate will join the QuadReal Retail group, a forward-thinking dynamic group of industry experts focused on providing exceptional service for tenants and shoppers while demonstrating industry-leading environmental, social and governance stewardship. Totaling 5.2 million square feet and $3 billion in market value, the QuadReal retail portfolio includes best-in-class shopping centres such as Oakridge Shopping Centre, Bayview Village Shopping Centre, Willowbrook Shopping Centre, Marche Central along with several open community centres and mixed-use properties currently in the development phase.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee management and operation of an enclosed regional shopping centre of approximately 625,000 square feet.
  • Provide leadership for the WB team and support growth, development & successorship of key staff through direct mentoring and skill set alignment across team.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Willowbrook Shopping Centre and successfully execute the approved business plans.
  • Provide strategic direction in the development and preparation of the annual revenue, expense, and capital budgets considering the asset objectives, capital resources, and operational requirements.
  • Ensure continued outstanding presentation of our interior and elevate our exterior curb appeal including The Courtyard.
  • Drive and support strong collaborative relationships between operations, leasing, marketing, and asset management. Foster such collaboration with open, clear and transparent communication.
  • Ensure 2024 Capital and leasing projects are executed according to budget on schedule.
  • Implement and maintain sustainability initiatives in line with QuadReal’s goals, focusing on energy reduction and efficient operation of buildings; ensure compliance with government regulations, occupational health and safety standards and achievement of maintenance/life safety standards.
  • Lead and mentor the property team and oversee recruitment, training and development, engagement, and performance management, ensuring employees understand and align with QuadReal’s culture and values.
  • Lead and mentor the team towards a commitment and passion for exceptional guest services.
  • Manage and maintain excellent relationships with community stakeholders.
  • Maintain, manage, and communicate key metrics including tenant sales, traffic, and other quantitative/qualitative analytics and provide contextual review and analysis.
  • Partner with corporate resources to ensure compliance and mitigation in Risk Management, including OH&S, insurance, environmental management and event risk.
  • Manage the Capital Planning Program for the property using QR practices and processes in collaboration with VP and Operations Manager
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience managing comparable regional retail centre(s)
  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration or Urban Planning is preferred, in addition to courses in Commercial Property Management (ICSC or CPM)
  • Valid BC Real Estate License (Property Management) or other Canadian jurisdiction with ability to transfer.
  • Demonstrated acumen and interest in the Retail industry.
  • Sustainability – Experience with BOMA BEST, LEED EB:OM or other sustainable programs an asset.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Relationship/LeadershipSkills - Able to communicate effectively and professionally, both oral and written; able to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships with senior management, contractors, tenants, and the public; able to partner with clients to meet client needs; self-motivated, professional and flexible; able to motivate, empower and coach/counsel staff in the achievement of performance goals

  • Computer Skills – Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and working knowledge of Yardi accounting system beneficial.

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $110,000-130,000.

The actual salary offered will take into consideration a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the individual’s skill, experience, education and training, the market compensation of the role, and the consideration to internal equity.
