Job description

Overview

The General Manager (Plant) is responsible for the overall operations, results, and the P&L of our manufacturing plant based out of Oakville. Functional areas of accountability include safety, engineering, planning, production, purchasing, quality, shipping, receiving, and maintenance.


As The General Manager, you will be working onsite out of our manufacturing facility located at 2121 Plymouth Drive. Oakville, ON L6H 5R5. Canada.


This role will report to the Director of Operations who is based out of Calgary, Alberta, will partner and work close with The Canadian Leadership Management Team promoting positive culture, collaboration, change agent and high-performance work environment though progressive Operational practices.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities include

  • Achieve the annual safety and health performance targets while ensuring compliance with all regulatory (company, customer, governmental, environmental, etc.) requirements.
  • Align plant procedures and best practices with corporate standards.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements the necessary controls and measurements to ensure efficient, cost-effective manufacturing operation that obtains its objectives in the area of Productivity, Cost, and Delivery.
  • Implement world-class manufacturing practices to achieve plant specific performance and cost targets.
  • Coordinate production requirements with the managers of the operational departments.
  • Co-ordinate the efforts of the various internal departments and monitor their progress.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the implementation of methods to improve operations and reduce costs.
  • Manage the maintenance and reliability of manufacturing equipment to ensure its proper operation with the lowest possible downtime within budget. Reach acceptable levels of plant availability.
  • Identify, evaluate, and proposed capital investment projects for the operations in the Edmonton facility.
  • Identify bottlenecks and propose improvements to manufacturing flow.
  • Identify the resource requirements in the manufacturing operations and re-allocate as necessary.
  • Build a high-performance and action-oriented team.
  • Lead and develop a team of highly technical supervisors and managers.
  • Monitor established performance indicators including on time delivery, productivity index, quality, and employee safety / injury.
  • Monitor the quality system program on the manufacturing floor.
  • Provide supervision of employees, which includes interviewing, hiring, training, rewarding, and disciplining in accordance with the organization's policies.
  • Other as assigned by Management.

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Possess superior business acumen with an undergraduate degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. MBA, MS or similar degree would also be a plus.
  • Strong cross-cultural communicator and relationship builder at all levels of internal and client organization(s) with the ability to work effectively across functions and partner effectively with a senior leadership team and functional leaders in a matrixed environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible line-management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a position of equivalent scope and accountability to this role.
  • Excellent people leader skills capable of inspiring and developing a best-in-class organization where results, attitude and behaviors are modeled at all levels.
  • Proven experience in the restructuring or repositioning of the operations team; have trained, developed and retained a strong operations team and have hired effectively from outside the company when needed.
  • Strong technical ability. Ability to understand and communicate technology and specifications to customers.
  • Strong operations leader with additional experience in other areas such as manufacturing, engineering, R&D, business and market development.
  • Experience working with manufacturing ERP system, AX is a plus.
  • Must be able to travel -/+ 10%, mostly to USA to attend annual operations meetings.
