POSITION SUMMARY : The General Manager in Training (GMIT) must have knowledge and experience in a high-volume retail environment; a passion for the Great Outdoors; and should be willing to grow, promote, and relocate. The GMIT will train with and learn the day-to-day management of the store, including merchandising and store operations, ensuring proper merchandise assortment, presentation, inventory control, customer service, financial efficiency, outfitter productivity, recruiting, human resources, motivation, and morale.

Responsibilities :

  • Coaching, training, motivating, and inspiring the team to deliver legendary customer service at all times.
  • Guide and manage the store's operations in line with sound business practices and organizational objectives to ensure profitable operations and positive cash flows.
  • Responsible for the store's annual operating budget.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory authorities, including the Canadian Firearms Centre.
  • Coach and develop the senior management team to foster growth and contribute to succession planning.
  • Implement ongoing improvements in the store and company-wide, including communication, gaining support from leadership, and executing new programs.
  • Partner with Human Resources to promote employee engagement and development. Manage performance and disciplinary actions per company policies.
  • Manage and maintain the store's fixed assets to ensure top condition and protection from loss or obsolescence through policies and regular maintenance.
  • Maintain communication with the management team, staff, and corporate partners.
  • Provide regular reports on store operations, including financial statements, activities, policies, and future plans.

Qualifications :

  • 3-5 years of management experience, especially in big box retail management.
  • Experience with computerized systems, including POS and inventory management.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and office software.
  • Knowledge or experience in outdoor activities and products is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a CFC PAL license.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, continuous improvement environment.
