Ladouceur Mechanical is seeking a General Manager / Estimator to lead our operations while staying closely involved in the day-to-day estimating and business development side of the business.

This is a dual role ideal for someone with deep mechanical contracting experience who is ready to step into a leadership position without stepping away from project strategy, client engagement, or estimating responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Business & Operations Leadership

• Lead and support a skilled team of project managers, estimators, and field staff.
• Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to our quality standards.
• Support project managers with escalation issues, resource coordination, or client concerns.
• Set company goals, monitor performance metrics, and identify process improvements.
• Review project costs, forecasts, and financial reports in collaboration with accounting or finance.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives across estimating, project delivery, and client service.
• Build and maintain a strong company culture rooted in accountability, professionalism, and safety.

Business Development & Estimating

• Lead estimating efforts for mechanical projects (HVAC, plumbing, piping, design-build).
• Perform quantity takeoffs for ductwork, piping, equipment, insulation, and controls.
• Develop scope clarifications, exclusions, and bid strategy for competitive advantage.
• Supervise junior or intermediate estimators and provide training, mentorship, and quality control.
• Review and approve final estimates and proposals before submission to clients.
• Maintain and update the company’s estimating database, including cost histories and unit pricing.
• Develop and monitor metrics to assess estimating performance, win rate, and profitability of awarded projects.
• Contribute to strategic decision-making on which projects to pursue or decline based on risk, capacity, and fit.
• Develop new business opportunities and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, engineers, and owners.
• Prepare proposals, bid packages, and budgets with a strategic and competitive approach.
• Identify and pursue new clients / market opportunities.
• Lead the development of annual sales targets and growth strategies.
• Conduct competitor and market analysis to stay ahead of industry trends.
• Represent the company in meetings, presentations, and negotiations with clients and partners.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in the mechanical contracting industry (HVAC, plumbing, piping, or design-build).
• 7+ years of progressive experience, ideally with a blend of project management, estimating, and leadership.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, mechanical systems, and estimating practices.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Comfortable managing teams and projects while still being hands-on with estimating and business development.
• Experience using estimating and project management software.
